Waltonville man sentenced to more than 11 years in prison

BENTON, IL (KFVS) - A Waltonville man was sentenced June 22 at United States District Court in Benton, Illinois for drug charges.

Jason R.W. Green, 34, of Waltonville, IL was sentenced to serve an 11 year and three month prison term, pay a $200 fine and $100 in special assessments, and to serve a three year term of supervised release following his prison sentence.

One injured, one arrested in Mt. Vernon shooting

A man was injured and another arrested after police say he was shot in Mt. Vernon Tuesday night.

It happened about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Mt. Vernon Police received reports of gunshots in the 18th and Conger area. 

Officers found Tyrone Davison, 33, at his home at 725 S. 17th with a gunshot wound.

Davison was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital.

Coleone G. Hawkins, 31, of Mt. Vernon was arrested on aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharged of a firearm into an occupied building.

He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail.

One injured, hundreds lost power in southern Ill. after storms

One storm related injury has been reported in Sesser.

Officials from the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency say the city of Sesser appears to be the most affected area with downed trees, power lines, and some damages to homes and businesses.

Storm reports from the Emergency Manager in Franklin County reports wind gusts to 65 miles per hour.  About 20 trees were uprooted.  One building that was under construction was leveled.

Franklin County EMA reminds residents to play it safe when cleaning up debris from the storm. Some roads are blocked by downed trees and drivers are reminded to use caution when traveling. Unnecessary travel in the area is discouraged at this time.

Unemployed due to flooding may be eligible for assistance

(KFVS) - Residents and business owners out of work because of severed storms and flooding in April and May in 14 southern Illinois counties could be eligible for federal disaster assistance.

The federal government declared Alexander, Franklin, Gallatin, Hardin, Jackson, Lawrence, Massac, Perry, Pople Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, White and Williamson counties disaster areas after the rains and flooding that occurred beginning April 19.

Those people whose employment or self-employment was lost or interrupted because of the rain and flooding in those 14 counties could be eligible for financial assistance.

The federal disaster declaration allows people in the area to access to temporary housing, grants or loans to help with flood-related losses.

Businesses might qualify for low-interest loans.

Applications are available at Illinois Department of Employment Security offices from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

Senior Circle ice cream social

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The Senior Circle ice cream social will be on Wednesday, June 22.

The social will be at the Veterans Park Community Building located at 800 South 27th Street.

There was some damage reported with area storms in the Heartland this weekend. Power outages and wind damage were reported in Mo. and  Ill. into mid-Sunday morning.
