Rend Lake College hosts annual student art show

INA, Ill. - Rend Lake College's Annual Student Art Show will run March 28 through May 3.

The art show will be held in the Learning Resource Center at the college. It will feature work by RLC students and area high school students.

A reception to kick off the show will take place from 6-8 p.m., March 28, in the RLC Theatre Lobby.

Hors d’oeuvres will be served from 6-7 p.m., followed by an awards presentation.

MOUNT VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The Beatle Brothers featuring special guest David Walters will be in concert March 16 at 7 p.m. at the Granada.

Proceeds from the concert go to the American Cancer Society and the American Kidney Fund.

Classical Guitar Tour stops at RLC

INA, IL (KFVS) - Internationally acclaimed classic/jazz guitarist Dr. Isaac Lausell is pictured tuning up for a Thelonius Monk piece he played at the Rend Lake College Theatre on Wednesday, February 6.

Lausell teaches at Southern Illinois University. The Classical Guitar Concert featured Lausell, the SIU Guitar Orchestra, and Southern Illinois’ own virtuoso and educator Joseph Palermo.

The concert, which was followed by a master class, was free to attend and sponsored by RLC's Cultural Events Committee and the guitar program at SIUC.

Illinois State Fair announces Grandstand entertainment for 2013

(KFVS) – The Grandstand entertainment line-up has been announced for the 2013 Illinois State Fair. 

State Fair Manager Amy Bliefnick today announced additional concert bookings for the August festival, including performances by The Band Perry, Billy Currington, Gary Allan, Thompson Square, Styx and REO Speedwagon.     

“The progress that has been made is exciting,” Bliefnick said. “Coupled with the previously announced booking of country superstar Toby Keith and the return of the Million Dollar Quartet, we are well on the way to delivering the kind of top-notch entertainment that fairgoers have come to expect.”

RLC presents Valentine’s Day themed cooking classes

INA, IL (KFVS) - Rend Lake College Community Education announces upcoming Valentine themed cooking class for kids as well as one for adults.

For the Love of Chocolate, taught by instructor Beth Mandrell, will teach participants how to prepare and present three different chocolate desserts. This class will be a combination of hands-on learning and camaraderie with fellow cooks. Participants will learn how to make chocolaty delights just in time for Valentine’s Day.

The course will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7 on the RLC main campus in the Student Center Culinary Arts Lab. The registration fee is $10. A supply fee of $15 is payable to the instructor at the beginning of the session.

Kids in the Kitchen Valentine’s Day is a Valentine’s Day themed cooking class geared towards younger children. Participants will be making Valentine themed items to take home and enjoy.

Wildflowers, St. Louis and bootleggin' highlight RLC Lifelong Learning Spring classes, tours

INA, IL (KFVS) - Rend Lake College Institute of Lifelong Learning announced classes and day tours for Spring 2013.

The Institute of Lifelong Learning is an organization of retirement-age people who share a common interest in lifelong learning and cultural enrichment. The only requirement is a desire to learn. No grades are given.

Lifelong Learning Class

Spring time in Southern Illinois is ripe with colorful, beautiful wildflowers. RLC Botany professor, Abel Kinser, created a class specifically for Lifelong Learners. This class will be held in an RLC Biology lab. Participants will learn how to identify wildflower specimens and view them under an RLC microscope. There are no tests, no quizzes, no grades - just interesting facts and information. Wildflowers of Southern Illinois will be held from 1 - 3 p.m., Saturday, April 13 in Room 116 of the Science Building on the RLC Main Campus. The registration fee is $10.

MOUNT VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The GenKota Jamz will be January 27 at GenKota Winery.

Doors will open at 12 p.m. and the music will start at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
