Aaron Tippin performance at Kaskaskia College has new date

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - Aaron Tippin will now be performing at KasKaskia College in the Jane Knight Auditorium on Saturday, May 21.

Tippin will be sharing new music and old favorites after a long break from recording at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $28 for adults and $15 for children.

The performance is part of Aaron Tippin Acoustic Series that gives audience members a more personal concert experience.

Tippin has five Gold Albums and one Platinum Album that includes songs like "My Blue Angel," "That's As Close As I'll Get To Loving You" and "I Wouldn't Have It Any Other Way."

Besides writing songs, he is also a pilot, farmer, winemaker, outdoorsman, competitive bodybuilder and devoted family man.

Sixth Annual Downtown After Five- Taste of Mt. Vernon event

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The Downtown After Five- Taste of Mt. Vernon will be at Tavern on 10th on April 28.

Admission is $5 and the event will be from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Diners can try food and drinks from Tommy T's, 9th Street Grill, Silver Streak, Papa Z's, GenKota Winery, King Barbacoa, What's for Dessert and Smokin' T's.

Vendors will charge a small fee to sample their food and a cash bar will be available.

There will also be live music from entertainment duo Jeff and Ian.

Downtown After Five was created to highlight improvements to the district and raise awareness for the positive things downtown and in the community.

Concert at Rend Lake College to benefit music students

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The Courtney Cox and The Rainmakers Jazz concert will be at Rend Lake College on Wednesday, March 30.

The concert will be at 7 p.m. and will benefit the RLC music students. Donations to the RLC Music Scholarship fund will be collected at the door.

Seniors Circle Dance in Mt. Vernon

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The Seniors Circle Dance will be at Veterens Park Community Building on Thursday, March 30.

Adults 50 and older can dance, visit and socialize. There will be bands and karaoke along with sodas and water for $1. You can bring finger foods to share.

Weight loss seminar in Mt. Vernon shows how to eat normally, improve health

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - Rita Schackmann will hosting a weight loss seminar on Saturday, April 2 at the Mt. Vernon Holiday Inn.

Schackmann is a weight control manager and offers to teach her way of success if you are battling five pounds or 195 pounds. The seminar will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Admission is $10 and it is suggested to get there a half hour early for a good seat. The doors will close when the seating is filled.

Schackmann will offer tips like:

  • First steps needed
  • Daily foods needed
  • Managing special occasions
  • Failure management
  • Exercise
  • Keys to maintenance

Blues Night at the Granada Center

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - Tickets are on sale for Blues Night with Kim Massie and the Solid Senders on Saturday, March 26.

Blues night will be at the Granada Center for the Performing Arts. The doors will open at 7 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Steve from PBS Kids to visit Cedarhurst

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - Cedarhurst Center for the Arts and WSIU Public Broadcasting is hosting a free concert with Mr. Steve from PBS Kids on Saturday, April 2.

The public is invited to this family-friendly event. After his performance, Mr. Steve will hold an autograph and photo session. Activities like hat making, a scavenger hunt and storytime sessions will also be included.

The concert will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mitchell Performance Hall. It will begin at 1:30 p.m. and last about an hour.

Before Mr. Steve's performance, families will be entertained with Cedarmouse and the PBS Kids character SuperWHY.
