Concert, Red Cross program in Mt. Vernon

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - A couple of events in Mt. Vernon on Thursday, Jan. 26 include a concert and Red Cross program.

The C.E. Brehm Memorial Library will host a concert by Magilla Shuwall at 6:30 p.m. The singer and song writer will play selections from his latest album, "A Place in the Hills."

Also on Thursday, there will be Discover the Red Cross in Action at Veterans Park Community Building, 800 South 27th, at 4 p.m.

At the program, you can learn more about life-saving work, hear from visionary leaders, as well as personal stories of those who have been impacted by the Red Cross programs and services.

Author of "Death Rides the Sky" to hold book signing

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The author of "Death Rides the Sky," Angela Mason, will have a book signing on Saturnday, Jan. 21.

The event will be at the GenKota Winery at 3 p.m.

The book is about the Tri-State tornado and there will be no cover charge for the book signing.

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The C.E. Brehm Memorial Library will host a movie night on Friday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m.

The library will be showing "The Smurfs" and doors open at 6:30 p.m. This is a free event that includes free popcorn and bottled water.

You can drive through the park decorated with thousands of traditional and religious themes, and also live scenes.

12 days of winning through Illinois contest

SPRINGFIELD, IL (KFVS) - The Illinois Department of Agriculture will hold a "12 Days of Christmas Contest."

It runs from December 14-25. To participate, you need to become a fan of the department on Facebook or follow them on Twitter. The agency will randomly pick a winner each day. The winner will get an Illinois product and an assortment of cooking supplies donated by the American Egg Board.

It's part of an effort to raise awareness about Illinois food products available to the public.

(KFVS) - A viewer sent us this picture of their pet Taco dressed as "Santa Paws."

Taco's lap might be too small, but we want to see pictures of your kids or pets sitting on Santa's lap. The pictures will be featured online and maybe on-air.
