Historical society sponsors chocolate contest

Historical society sponsors chocolate contest

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The Jefferson County Historical Society is sponsoring a chocolate contest.

Residents are invited to enter their own chocolate recipe for cakes, cookies, pies, brownies, candy or other. The historical society says the grand prize is $250.

Entries were due by Dec. 1 and judging will take place on Dec. 8 at the Elk's Lodge. A tasting and bake sale will also be held that day.

The Elks lodge is located at 1107 Jordan Street.

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The downtown Christmas parade in Mt. Vernon will be Saturday, Dec. 3.

The parade will start at 5 p.m. and the theme this year is "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."

Line up starts at 3 p.m. and all entries must be in place by 4 p.m.

RLC dinner theatre presents "Starting Here, Starting Now"

INA, IL (KFVS) - Tickets are on sale for the Rend Lake College Dinner Theatre production of "Starting Here, Starting Now."

The musical revue will be at 7 p.m. on Dec. 2 and 3 and at 1 p.m. on Dec. 4.

“I chose the musical revue “Starting Here, Starting Now” to showcase the many talents of our students,” said show Director Sara Alstat. “Maltby & Shire have created a show that is entertaining for all audience members. The absolutely gorgeous melodic lines and witty, endearing lyrics – combined with lots of crowd interaction – create a musical experience that will not be forgotten. Add an elegant meal catered by Seasoning Bistro and this will be a night of entertainment you can’t miss."

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The Christmas craft fair will be December 2-3 at Veteran's Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The craft fair will include a wide variety of hand-crafted holiday items for sale.

Family reading night at C.E. Brehm Memorial Library

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The C.E. Brehm Memorial Library will host a family reading night on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m.

You can drop in for a slice of pizza. The library says the pizza costs 50 cents or one canned good for the needy.

This year the theme is "Books to Movies." Featured readers will be sharing portions of books that have been made into movies.
