St. Mary’s Good Samaritan converts to electronic health records

St. Mary’s Good Samaritan converts to electronic health records

MOUNT VERNON, IL (KFVS) - St. Mary’s Good Samaritan hospitals in Centralia and Mt. Vernon, Illinois converted from paper medical records to electronic health records at 12:01 a.m., Saturday, June 1.

This puts these hospitals in the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for electronic health record (EHR) adoption.

EHR improves patient care by allowing caregivers access to patient information at any time, from anywhere.

“The system is very user friendly. It’s apparent that significant nurse and physician input went into the building of this electronic medical record,” stated Dr. Timothy Morthland, hospitalist at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center.

The EHR prevents delays in care, unnecessary duplicate testing and errors that might occur when information is not available from a previous doctor or hospital visit. The St. Mary’s Good Samaritan EHR has also been designed for the appropriate level of privacy and security.

Monken said his agency plans to provide preparedness information and tips to staff throughout May.

If you're a local restaurant, will you have different hours and specials to cater to the Black Friday shoppers?

Is anyone in the community: churches, community centers, etc. offering babysitting for those that will be out in the early a.m. for shopping?
