Good Samaritan hosts open house tours of new, $237 million Regional Health Center

MOUNT VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The Good Samaritan Regional Health Center is hosting Community Open Houses to the public January 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and January 6 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The open houses offer visitors an opportunity to be among the first to see inside the new state-of-the-art Regional Health Center and attached Medical Plaza.

Victoria Woodrow, Marketing Director, says that the opening of this new hospital has added 98 more jobs.  And, that the community of Mt. Vernon is excited about the opening of this new hospital facility. She says the adding of jobs are something that is always welcome and needed in the community.

Yesterday, Woodrow says 6,000 people have toured the facility through Sunday.

Part open house and part guided tour, the Community Open Houses invites the visitors to see areas of the hospital normally off-limits to the public, such as operating rooms, catheterization labs, and more.

Good Samaritan Regional Health Center says their staff will be on hand at key areas of the hospital and Medical Plaza to answer questions and guide visitors through featured locations including expanded ER, all-private patient rooms, Women’s Center, fireplace-furnished family lounges, a two-story water wall, stained glass artwork located in the hospital chapel, physician offices in the Medical Plaza and more. Families are encouraged to attend and complimentary refreshments will be served.

“When we set out to build a new Regional Health Center, we wanted to build a facility that promoted a healing environment and provided state-of-the-art health care to Southern Illinois– we can’t wait to share it with the community,” said Victoria Woodrow, PR/Marketing Director of Good Samaritan Regional Health Center.

The new Good Samaritan Regional Health Center is located on Veterans Memorial Drive, adjacent to the new interchange for I-57 and I-64. The five-floor hospital holds 134 beds, 8 observation beds, all-private rooms and numerous advanced patient safety features. The hospital also includes expanded Emergency Care services, Women’s Center and a Procedure Center.

Announced in 2009, the new Good Samaritan Regional Health Center was built to replace the existing hospital, which has served the Mt. Vernon community since 1952. The new $237 million facility broke ground in April 2010 and was built by McCarthy Building Companies of St. Louis, Lipps Construction of Mt. Vernon and Shores Builders of Centralia.
