Good Samaritan declares last and first babies born at old and new facilities

MOUNT VERNON, IL (KFVS) - Good Samaritan Regional Health Center says history was made in January as the last and first babies were born at the old and new facilities.

Carissa Hibbert and Josh Millner welcomed Mason Carter at 1:10 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the old facility on 12th Street, and 24 hours later on Sunday, Jan. 27, Hillary Sledge and Paul Bond welcomed Harley Eugene at 1:49 p.m. at the new facility on Good Samaritan Way.

Both Hibbert and Sledge were patients transported by ambulance to the new facility on patient move day – January 27, 2013.

“We are very excited that our son Mason made history by being the last baby born at the old Good Samaritan Regional Center,” said Carissa Hibbert, adding  “We had a wonderful experience and would like to thank all the staff and Dr. Combs for their help in making this a most memorable day.”

Send messages of thanks, holiday cheer to troops now through Dec. 7

(KFVS) - The American Red Cross will be collecting and distributing cards that send words of encouragement, gratitude and cheer to America's heroes for the holiday season.

The Red Cross is inviting the public to send messages of thanks and holiday cheer until Dec. 7 by mailing them to:

Holiday Mail for Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456

To ensure that cards are delivered on time for the holidays, the Red Cross says they must be postmarked no later than Dec. 7. Individuals are asked to refrain from sending "care packages," monetary donations or using glitter or any other kinds of inserts with the cards.

According to the Red Cross, the company Pitney Bowes Inc. receives cards at the special Holiday Mail post office box, and screens them for hazardous materials. The company screens, packages and ships the cards at no charge.
