MOUNT VERNON, IL (KFVS) - Illinois State Police say a Mt. Vernon woman was seriously injured after they say she became distracted and drove into the side of a semi, then drove off the road and hit a tree.
According to police, around 10:27 a.m. on Dec. 10 Lorez Kim Rouse, 55, was driving a blue 2006 Cadillac northbound on I-57 at milepost 100 in the left lane and a semi was in the right-hand lane. They say Rouse was distracted and drove her car into the side of the semi, causing the car to swerve, hit a tree and come to a final rest on the right side of the interstate.
Police say Rouse received serious injuries and was taken to Cross Roads Hospital in Mt. Vernon and later transferred to a St. Louis Hospital. They say the semi has not been found and the incident is still under investigation.
