RLC announces 2013 Homecoming Court

INA, IL (KFVS) - Rend Lake College officials are pleased to announce the candidates for this year’s Homecoming King and Queen.

Coronation of the 2013 RLC Homecoming King and Queen will take place Feb. 20, during halftime of the men’s basketball game that starts at 7:30 p.m. in Waugh Gymnasium.

RLC students will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite candidates from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 14 and 15; and from 9 a.m. to noon on Homecoming, Feb. 20. All voting will take place in the RLC Student Center.

Queen candidates are Melissa Pearson of DuQuoin, Juanita Jones of Mt. Vernon, Alexa Heumann of Benton, Justine Lamke of Scheller and Kylee Henager of Mt. Carmel. King candidates are Jason O’Brien of Emden, Alex Heathcoat of Benton, Steven Crawford of Benton, and Steven Campbell of Pinckneyville.

Pearson is the daughter of Leonard Pearson and Angela and Mark Rojek. She is a graduate of DuQuoin High School and majors in Radiologic Technology at RLC. She is president of the RLC Radiology Club and plans to pursue a career as a Radiographer, specializing in Computed Tomography and MRI.

Jones is the daughter of Cindy and Earl Jones. She is a graduate of Mount Vernon Township High School and is a Music major at RLC. Jones is a member of RLC’s STARS Program and desires to live a successful and happy life.

Heumann is the daughter of Crystal and Wilford Heumann. She graduated from Benton Consolidated High School and is a Science major at Rend Lake where she is a member of the Dance Team. After RLC, Heumann plans to pursue a degree from Eastern Illinois University as a Clinical Lab Scientist.
   
Lamke is the daughter of Ernie and Tina Lamke. She graduated from Waltonville High School and is a Paralegal Studies major. Lamke is a RLC Cheerleader who plans to earn her degree at SIU Carbondale and one day become a Cheer Coach.
   
O’Brien is the son of Mike and Tammy O’Brien. He graduated from Hartsburg-Emden High School and is a Business major. O’Brien plays on the Warriors baseball team and plans to continue his baseball career for the Quincy University Hawks.

Heathcoat is the son of Tim and Sally Heathcoat. Home schooled before RLC, Heathcoat is majoring in Business, is a member of the RLC STARS program, and plans to continue on to Southern Illinois University.

Campbell is the son of Keith and Crystal Campbell. He graduated from Pinckneyville Community High School and is a Radiologic Technology major and a member of the Radiology Club at RLC. His plans are to pursue a career as an X-Ray Technician and continue developing his band on the side.

Crawford is the son of Mike and Lora Crawford. A graduate of Benton Consolidated High School, Crawford is a member of the Student Ambassadors at RLC. His future plans are to participate in the Disney College Program in Orlando, Florida, before continuing his education at Southern Illinois University.

Homecoming celebrations at the college include, on Feb. 20, the Lady Warriors basketball game against Wabash Valley College at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m. Sloan’s Competitive Dance Team will perform at halftime of the women’s game. Sophomore student-athletes will be recognized between games, right after the RLC Dance Team performance.

The RLC Concert Choir will perform the National Anthem. Coronation will take place at halftime of the men’s game. On Feb. 21, a Homecoming Student Mixer will take place from 6 - 10 p.m., in the Student Center.
