Mt. Vernon hospital honors employees for longevity of service

MOUNT VERNON, IL (KFVS) - St. Mary’s Good Samaritan hosted a Recognition Dinner on Wednesday, May 15 at the Holiday Inn in Mt. Vernon.

During this event, employees were honored for significant years of service.  Over 300 dedicated men and women were celebrated at this event with a special focus on those serving for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and even 45 years. The combined total of experience for those celebrating an anniversary added up to an amazing 5,013 years.

Kay Tinsley, Dorothy Wade and Layne Harmon were recognized for giving 45 years of faithful commitment to St. Mary’s Good Samaritan. Kay serves as Vice President Fiscal Services for St. Mary’s Good Samaritan. Dorothy is an LPN on 3200 Unit at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center, and Layne is an RN in the Psych Care Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital. These three ladies received plaques and roses, along with a well-deserved standing ovation.

Women vets will find unique information, services at Women Veterans Fair

(KFVS) - The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs is proud to offer the Illinois Women Veterans Fair, on Saturday, April 13.

This event will be held at the Southwestern Illinois College Liberal Arts Complex Conference Center, 2500 Carlyle Ave., Belleville, Ill. The event includes a complimentary light breakfast social, remarks from SWIC President Georgia Costello, Ph.D., IDVA Director Erica Borggren, herself a US Army veteran, and Maj. Gen. Barbara Faulkenberry, Vice-Commander, 18th Air Force, Scott Air Force Base.

Following the remarks, there will be panel discussions geared to help women veterans “own” their military experience, to transition more smoothly into civilian life, and to understand and better deal with Military Sexual Trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder related to their military service.

John Mayer to entertain at Illinois State Fair

SPRINGFIELD, IL (KFVS) - Fair officials have announced that blues-rock musician John Mayer is schedule to perform at the 2013 Illinois State Fair in August.

American Idol champion Phillip Phillips will headline for Mayer at the Sunday, Aug. 11 concert.

Mayer, a Grammy award winner, is well known for hits like "Daughters," "Waiting on the World to Change," and "Say."

Tickets are priced form $40 for a Tier 3 seat to $65 for a VIPit pass. They go on sale Saturday, March 30 at 10 a.m. Tickets can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com or by calling (800) 745-3000 or by visiting any Ticketmaster outlet.

The Fair begins Thursday, Aug. 8-Sunday, Aug. 18.

Pinckneyville woman to direct regional tourism development office

MARION, IL (KFVS) -  A new opportunity for tourism development has arrived in Illinois.

Recently, the Trails to Adventure Regional Tourism Development Office (RTDO) opened at 3000 West DeYoung St., Suite 800B , Marion, Illinois.

Tibretta Reiman, from Pinckneyville, Illinois, is the Development Director.

Reiman was Executive Director of the Foundation for Pinckneyville and has been involved with tourism for five years.

The Illinois Office of Tourism (IOT) has designated four regions for tourism development.

The regional offices were formed to work with local Tourism Bureaus and Convention and Visitors Bureaus to bring visitors to Illinois.

The regional offices also market counties that are not covered by a bureau. 

The regions are: Chicago and Beyond in the north; Great Rivers Country on the western side; Land of Lincoln in the central part of the state; and Trails to Adventure in southern and eastern Illinois.

Phil Carson elected as Secretary-Treasurer of NRECA

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) – Phil Carson of Oakdale was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association at its annual meeting in New Orleans, La. on February 20.

This is the first time Illinois has had one of its directors elected to a national leadership position.

The NRECA is the national service organization that represents the nation’s more than 900 not-for-profit, member-owned electric cooperatives.

These locally-owned cooperatives generate, transmit and distribute electricity to the homes, farms and businesses of 42 million members in 47 states.

Carson has been a director at Tri-County Electric Cooperative in Mt. Vernon since 1998 and has served on the NRECA board since 2006.

In addition, he is a director for Egyptian Telephone Cooperative Association, Southern Illinois Power Cooperative, and the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives.
