First Annual Blues and Crawfish Festival in Mt. Vernon

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The First Annual Blues and Crawfish Festival will be at Tavern on 10th Saturday, April 16.

The festival will begin at 4:30 p.m. It will include music and food all day.

Music includes Pennsylvania Slim who will be performing from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. followed by Lon'l from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Crawfish, gumbo and shrimp skewers will be cooked by Uncle Joe's BBQ for the day.

Eleventh Annual So. Ill. Steel Guitar Show

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The 11th Annual Southern Illinois Steel Guitar Show will be April 14-16.

The show will be at the Holiday Inn in Mt. Vernon, Ill. It will include performances in classic country, country, western swing and jazz, along with special guests Leonna Williams, Dottie Jack and Ron Williams from RFD TV.

Advanced tickets are $8 for Thursday, $12 for Friday, $20 for Saturday and $38 for all three days.

Spring bazaar and bake sale in Mt. Vernon

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The Crossroads Community Hospital Auxiliary is hosting a Spring Bazaar and Bake Sale on Thursday, April 14.

The event will be at the Crossroads Community Hospital Executive Conference Room, located at 8 Doctors Park Road. It will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include fresh baked goods, spring crafts and more.

Bandit Run 2011 in Mt. Vernon

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - Vintage muscle cars will be driving into Mt. Vernon and bringing back memories of Smokey and the Bandit on Tuesday, April 12.

Cars like vintage TransAms, Snowman's tractor trailer, the "Banshee" and more will be at Times Square Mall from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The cars will drive through Mt. Vernon at 6 p.m. and end back at the GenKota Winery.

Food, drink and entertainment will be available at the winery. The group will spend the night in Mt. Vernon and then leave for Georgia, their final destination.

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - Heartland Women's Healthcare is teaming up with Green Door Spa and WMIX to host the annual Easter Egg Extravaganza Saturday, April 9.

The Easter event will be at Mt. Vernon's Veteran's Park from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. There will be opportunities to hunt Easter eggs and win prizes for children of all ages.

The Easter Egg Extravaganza will take place rain or shine according to the sponsors.

Weight loss seminar in Mt. Vernon shows how to eat normally, improve health

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - Rita Schackmann will hosting a weight loss seminar on Saturday, April 2 at the Mt. Vernon Holiday Inn.

Schackmann is a weight control manager and offers to teach her way of success if you are battling five pounds or 195 pounds. The seminar will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Admission is $10 and it is suggested to get there a half hour early for a good seat. The doors will close when the seating is filled.

Schackmann will offer tips like:

  • First steps needed
  • Daily foods needed
  • Managing special occasions
  • Failure management
  • Exercise
  • Keys to maintenance

Body art night at Cedarhur Center of the Arts

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The Cedarhurst Center of the Arts will host The Happening Presents: Body Art Night on Tuesday, March 22.

At the event you can learn about the evolution of tattoos and different forms of body art. The night is supported by The Bearded Lady Tattoo Parlor.

There will be a try it out activity where different stations will be set up for participants to try mock tattoos, henna painting and body painting. None of the body art is permanent. There will also be complimentary hors 'doeurves and a cash bar.

Body Art Night will be from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Schweinfurth House at Cedarhurst.
