JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The Rend Lake fishing report for Monday, July 25 is available.

Largemouth bass:

  • Rating - good
  • Bait of choice - worms, rattle traps, jigs and trailer, spinner baits, square bill crank baits
  • Suggested locations - Fish in shallow bays near brush cover and bushes. Fish around bridges and along the rocks. Fish being caught in 4-6 feet of water
  • Regulations - 14 inch minimum length limit, six daily creel limit. One fish daily creel limit in ponds 14 inch minimum length

Crappie:

  • Rating - excellent
  • Bait of choice - fish with medium and small minnows. Quarter-ounce pink and white tub jigs
  • Suggested locations - Fish are in the deep water. Fish 12-13 feet deep over brush and on edges of water.

High school fishing state championship at Rend Lake

High school fishing state championship at Rend Lake

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The Student Angler Federation Illinois High School fishing State Championship will be held at Rend Lake on June 4.

The state championship is a two-person team event for students in grades nine through 12. It will be at the Marcum South boat ramp on Rend Lake.

High school anglers and their coach, who will provide the boat, can register online or by calling 580-765-9031.

The check in will start at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 3 at the Veterans Park Community Building located at 800 South 27th Street in Mt. Vernon. A mandatory rules briefing will follow registration at 7 p.m.

Event coordinators highly encourage all teams to pre-register online or by phone in advance to avoid late fees.

PVA Bass Tournament

PVA Bass Tournament

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The PVA Bass Tournament will be May 20-22 at Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park in Rend Lake.

The park is located at 11094 Ranger Road, Whittington. Registration will be at Veterans Park Community Building from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Partner pairing will be at 7:30 p.m.

The host hotel will be Holiday Inn.

SCHELLER, IL (KFVS) - A viewer took this picture in his yard of some turkeys and a skunk.

Charles Bruce Shurtz said he has seen the turkeys for a couple of mornings but this time there was a skunk with them.

Scheller, Ill. is just off Illinois Route 148 and southwest of Mt. Vernon and Waltonville, Ill.

Tis the season for trout fishing in Illinois

JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Spring trout fishing season is back in Illinois as of 5 a.m. on Saturday, April 2.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is stocking more than 60,000 rainbow trout where trout fishing is permitted during the spring season. In Jefferson County, this would be the Mount Vernon Game Farm Pond.

The sale of inland trout stamps to anglers helps fund the catchable trout program.

The annual fishing licenses for the 2011 season are valid through March 21, 2012. You can also buy a 24-hour Illinois fishing license that includes trout fishing.

Ducks Unlimited event on Saturday

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The Ducks Unlimited event will be at the Holiday Inn on Saturday, March 12.

The event starts at 5 p.m.

Ducks Unlimited began in 1937 as an organization for habitat conservation.
